Welcome to SEAFWA 2008
The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department is pleased to host the 62nd Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies Conference at the Bayfront Convention Center and Omni Bayfront Towers and Marina, October 12-15, 2008. Our theme of Our Land Our Water – New Wildlife Management Partnerships recognizes the contemporary need to initiate and strengthen private and public partnerships in order to meet the growing demands for hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities in our private-lands-rich southeastern states. The plenary session will offer speakers who will discuss various models for these valuable partnerships, both tested and untested. We are confident that these discussions will open new doors of opportunity and point us in new directions. Registration fees for this year's conference will be $240 and $125 for students.
Each evening there will be a unique event to entertain you. The Sunday night "Welcome to Texas" reception will feature truly Tex-Mex cuisine and entertainment. Meet numerous vendors while nibbling spicy fare as mariachis stroll. Monday night's reception will be at the beautiful Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History where you will listen to the famous Members of the Ace in The Hole Band while sampling exotic game prepared by Texas Game Wardens.
While the conference offers many opportunities for growth and learning, there will also be ample time for relaxation. The beautiful bay city of Corpus Christi is the perfect place to shop, fish, or walk along the beach. The Omni hotels offer 5 star services and there are many fine restaurants just a short walk from the hotel. Visit the many cultural centers including the Art Center, Art Museum of South Texas, Texas State Museum of Asian Cultures, cruise the bay on Captain Clark's Flagship, see a play at the Harbour Theater, try your hand at saltwater fishing, birdwatch at numerous Corpus Christi birding trails, hawk watch at Hazel Bazemore County Park, tour the USS Lexington and the Texas State Aquarium and Dolphin Bay. You are just minutes away from Padre Island National Seashore, Mustang Island State Park and the beautiful beaches of Port Aransas. Several spouse events are being planned (TBA) to entertain and amuse.
All this and more awaits you, so mark your calendars and make your reservations today!
